9.11 Blood and Marrow Drive

On Saturday, September 11, 2010, the Daytona International Speedway is hosting the fifth annual 9.11 Blood and Marrow Drive. The event is hosted by Florida's Blood Centers and will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

During the scheduled time, visitors are encouraged to come to the speedway and donate blood. By donating on the Big Red Bus located at the speedway, donors can safely know that their blood will be given to a local patient in need.

This drive will also provide opportunities for donors to win certain prizes, among which include a free commemorative t-shirt and admission to the Subway Jalapeno 250.

For more information on the drive and prizes available, please visit http://floridasbloodcenters.org/911/ or call 1-888-9-DONATE.

What is Florida's Blood Centers?
Florida's Blood Centers (FBC) is a service-based organization dedicated to collecting, processing and distributing blood to patients in need. They currently serve over 70 hospitals and medical facilities throughout Florida. FBC also supports advances scientific research into the prevention of disease.

What happens to my blood when I donate?
After your blood is collected, it is kept at one of FBC's regional laboratories while a sample is tested and screened. The results of the testing are then shared with other regional laboratories, which process the blood into various components such as red-blood cells and plasma. When a patient within the donor's community becomes in need of one of these components, it is delievered directly to them.
